Pictures and miniatures covered the walls, and every available surface would be filled with trophies, souveniers, lamps, vases, pottery figures, flowers and bric-a-brac and leafy green plants. An important piece of hall furniture was the stand to take coats, hats and umbrellas. Upholstered pieces included the ottoman, chaise lounge. Oriental rugs are ideal for a Victorian room, reflecting an interest in exotic places. Paisleys, too give an authentic touch. In the 1860s white and gold designs became popular for drawing rooms furnished in the "louis" style. |
